Project description
Regions, regional identities and regionalist movements not only shape the geographical, cultural and political map of Europe, but are also well-known phenomena in many other parts of the world, sometimes with considerable potential for conflict. In view ofthe high relevance in the past and present as well as the global relevance, the Willy Brandt Center has decided to dedicate a Summer School to the topic of regions in Europe and the world in 2022. The project aims to give especially young researchers fromthe worldwide DAAD Centre Network the opportunity for academic exchange and networking and at the same time to make a significant contribution to the academic discussion of the study of the region. The academic part of the Summer School will be accompanied by a cultural program that will trace the paths ofregional identity constructionsince the end of communist rule in 1989, based on the special history of Lower Silesia as a disputed border region.
