Prof. Dr. habil. Jürgen Joachimsthaler - "Pain and Ecstasy. Bodily images in the literary discourse between East- and West-Germany"

In their literary works, West- and East-German authors often made use of physical pictures during the times of political separation, the “Turn” and the time since – this extends to erotic, cruel, desolate or euphoric love stories in which people from both parts come together (or not), illustrated through sometimes drastic metaphors from the physical field (The famous quote “Now what belongs together will grow together” is also influenced by that). I want to structure the research of the linguistic usage into two levels: 1. In which way does it fit with varying beliefs in West- and East-Germany regarding physics, sexuality etc. and 2. Which political and social experiences and realities are combined to a plausible (not necessarily right) picture?
