Information about the guest lecturer:
Dr. Andrii Portnov is Professor of Entangled History of Ukraine at the European University Viadrina and Director of the Viadrina Centre of Polish and Ukrainian Studies. He is also a founding director of PRISMA UKRAЇNA Research Network Eastern Europe in Berlin. His most recent book publications are: Dnipro. An Entangled History of a European City (Boston, 2022) and Polska i Ukraina: wspólna historia, asymetryczna pamięć (Berlin – Warszawa, 2023).
Upcoming lecture by Prof. Dr. Andrii Portnov on the topic «Re-thinking Polish and Ukrainian Studies in the Context of the Ongoing Russia's War against Ukraine" will present the results of preliminary observations and conclusions about the development of Polish and Ukrainian studies since February, 24, 2022.
The presentation will be focused on the teaching and research experience of the German Academia, on the ongoing theoretical debates and institutional changes. Special attention will be devoted to the newly established Viadrina Centre of Polish and Ukrainian Studies.
The lecture also intends to briefly introduce the audience to key concepts and events in the history of Ukraine related to the construction of Ukrainian statehood, Ukrainian ethnicity and Ukrainian identity.
Additionally, the lecture will consider vectors and prospects of transformation and development of German-Ukrainian and Polish-Ukrainian relations under the influence of the challenges of Russia's War against Ukraine.
This lecture is the second of a series of lectures on the topic "Ukraine between history and modernity: war challenges, historical narratives and a conflict of interpretations".
